I recently tried to reserve one of the many empty rooms in the Marshall Student Center so my friends (all of which are USF students) and I could play a table top role playing game in peace and quiet. I was not very surprised to learn that there would be a charge for hosting an event in the Marshall Student Center. According to a representative of the USF Event and Meeting Services Office (found in room 4100 in the Marshall Center) I corresponded with through e-mail it would cost, "anywhere between $40 to $100 per room."
It is ridiculous that USF students cannot use the rooms in the USF Marshall Student Center for free. We students already pay enough to attend USF, we already have to pay extra to use the parking lots/garages, and to force us to pay even more money to use the Marshall Center is an outrage. Ask anyone who has ever set foot inside the Marshall Student Center and they will tell you there are plenty of empty rooms for students to use, so I say paying for a room would be more free money for USF. This is another example of how USF will put its greed above the students and logic.
